“I just spoke with this candidate who dropped by,” she said. “She’s exactly what we need — great background, strong communication skills, solid experience. But… you wouldn’t know it from this resume.”

We passed the resume around. She was right. On paper, the candidate came across as generic and underqualified. Nothing on the page reflected the confidence or capability our co-worker had just described.
